Miles Nordgren selected in MLB draft

The Minnesota Twins selected Birmingham-Southern pitcher Miles Nordgren with the 680th pick in Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft on Saturday afternoon.

Nordgren had an 8-2 record with a 1.37 earned-run average in 14 outings, including 11 starts, during the 2014 season. In 78.2 innings, the 6-foot-2 right-hander yielded 53 hits, walked 11 and struck out 62.

Nordgren was a member of the D3baseball.com All-America Team, made the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-American second team and earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-American Team. He was also Birmingham-Southern’s Man of the Year.

Nordgren was the Southern Athletic Association Pitcher of the Year last season when he was used mainly out of the Birmingham-Southern bullpen.

Nordgren became the third BSC player picks in the past four drafts.

Nordgren was a prep standout at Etowah High School.
